Currently, SALAS conducts English language benchmark assessments for employees of private companies, but not for citizenship purposes. Companies may want their employees assessed to determine their benchmarks prior to the employees beginning language training classes or prior to employees taking citizenship exams in order to determine what preparation would be necessary for the employee to be successful in the exam.
Currently, SALAS has an agreement with the City of Calgary Livery Department to provide language assessments to prospective taxi drivers, provided these individuals have not previously been assessed by SAIT. The standard provincial fee of $160 is the cost for this private assessment, and the CLBPT is the assessment used.
Assessments for this purpose are offered in three locations: SALAS Ltd. office in Lethbridge, AB, Brooks Campus of MHC, and J.T. Foster School in Nanton. Clients wishing an assessment should call the SALAS office 403 328 4811 for an appointment at any of these three locations.
The Southern Alberta Language Assessment Services company has been involved with many companies in their efforts to assess and provide language training for their foreign workers.
NOTE: SALAS LTD. DOES NOT CONDUCT ASSESSMENTS FOR PERMANENT RESIDENCY OR CITIZENSHIP.
THE INFORMATION PRESENTED BELOW IS HISTORICAL, BUT DEMONSTRATED THE USEFULNESS OF ESTABLISHING A BASELINE OF LANGUAGE SKILLS, PRIOR TO THE BEGINNING OF LANGUAGE CLASSES, AND THE DEMONSTRATION OF ENGLISH PROFICIENCY AS NOTED ABOVE.
SALAS has also provided assessments for various other Southern Alberta companies i.e. Varsteel, Canbra Foods, Maple Leaf Potatoes
